The position

The System Architect at the Design Organisation of PAL-V, playes a governing and integral role in the overall vehicle design and the underlying process. He is responsible for safeguarding and managing compliancy of the complete vehicle and its requirements, whilst troubleshooting problems with subsystems, processes and non-compliancies. 

PAL-V's design organisation focuses on the (continued) development, (flight) testing, certification and continued airworthiness of flying cars including components and (sub)systems. The development projects are carried out in various project teams (consisting of Design/ Flight Test Engineers (8-15 people) and a Project Teamlead), with these these teams focusing specificaly on a vehicle system or test organisation. 

The System Architect supports the Design Engineers and production in the design and development of (parts of)the product, components, tools, jiggs and sub-systems. He also plays an important role inassigning and defining requirements within the (complex) electrical systems. The System Architect instructs, coaches and supervises colleagues and contributes to the technology policy, working methods and standards by means of improvement proposals. As System Architect you report directly to the HODO and are an active member of the Techical Review Board.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Review unit owner of overall vehicle design, managing its PDR & CDR process, and safeguarding the latest vehicle design state in relation to the performance requirements, type specification, and MVP.
  • Being an active member of the Technical Review Board, evaluating problems and proposed design solutions, and supporting Design Engineers and production in the required work process.
  • Completes and reviews safety risk analyses (including FMEA) in line with design and certification requirements, and checking if test definitions and test plans are in line with design and certification requirements.
  • Staying up to date with specialized knowledge of certification, aviation, automotive, and electrical systems, and transferring this knowledge to colleagues based on own area(s) of expertise.

Soft(ware)skills

  • High independence, initiative, and taking responsibility.                                                                
  • Has attention to detail, is a problem solver and a analytical thinker.                                         
  • Solid knowledge of (complex) electrical systemsand certification legislation (DO-254 & DO-178). Mastery of programming in C.   
  • Solid knowledge of CAD engineering (Solidworks) and industrialization processes.          
  • Experience in aeronautical and automotive design processes.                                            
  • Experience with flight performance & flying in general.

Your profile

  • You have a Bachelor's or Master degree in Aerospace, Automotive, or equivalent. 
  • You have more than 8 years of work experience. 
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
